MEDIRAS
Membrane Distillation in Remote Areas
Membrane distillation (MD) is a desalination technology mostly suitable for small distributed desalination systems powered by solar energy. The technology is very robust against different raw water and ambient conditions.
|
The MEDIRAS project is focused on the following four main objectives:
- Reduction of water production costs by utilizing the potential for cost reduction of membrane distillation modules and system technology
- Expansion of field for applications leading to an expanding market and decreasing production costs by serial production
- Water quality management leading to a guarantee of the product water quality and ensuring that it complies with the highest drinking water standards
- Financing concept for market introduction of MD- systems in regions with low purchasing power (developing countries and emerging nations)
