Happy and healthy new year 2021

The WIP family would like to take the chance to wish you and your family a happy and healthy new year of 2021.

We are convinced that 2021 will bestow a healthy year upon us, leading us back to a more normal way of living, working and getting together with colleagues, friends and family.

Stay healthy, stay safe and stay positive!

SERENDI PV Survey

SERENDI-PV is one of WIP`s newest consortium-based projects in the Solar PV sector. SERENDI-PV partners are developing advanced PV modelling, simulation and design tools, monitoring data analytics for fault diagnostics and improved operation and maintenance, as well as lab- and field-testing quality control equipment and procedures for better assessment of the reliability of PV components and systems. These activities will enable higher PV penetration through a better understanding of the PV installed capacity, and smart digital models for energy and services communication exchange between system stakeholders. To best engage these stakeholders, the SERENDI-PV consortium is conducting a questionnaire to better understand the needs of the market. This questionnaire focuses on the quality control procedures for various types of industry technologies including bifacial & floating PV, inverters, and batteries etc. All stakeholders and professionals in the PV community are highly encouraged to fill out the short survey.

Just Transition

WIP’s work on Territorial Just Transition Plans in Europe, making sure that no one is left behind.

As part of the European Green Deal, the European Commission proposed in December 2019 a Just Transition Mechanism, including a Just Transition Fund and focusing on those Regions and sectors that are most affected by the transition given their dependence on fossil fuels, including coal, peat and oil shale or greenhouse gas-intensive industrial processes. In this framework, WIP is successfully contributing to the preparation of Territorial Just Transition Plans in Slovenia, Greece and Cyprus, together with a team of experts led by Deloitte. The Territorial Just Transition Plans will set out the social, economic and environmental challenges and give details on needs for economic diversification, reskilling and environmental rehabilitation, as appropriate. Relevant local, regional and national stakeholders are involved in the process.

Re4Industry

One of the latest projects WIP is involved in is Re4Industry. The main objective of the project is to facilitate for the energy intensive industry (EII) sector in Europe a smooth and more secure transition to the adoption of Renewable Energies (RE) in their production processes and facilities. The project will guide the EIIs and their organisations in their path for a total decarbonization towards 2050 by providing vision and guidance to establish their long-term strategy for a coherent and more secure retrofitting and integration of current and future RE solutions in their facilities and processes.

SocialRES

SocialRES, a project founded in 2019 with the goal of promoting energy democracy through social innovation, hasmade great progress in the past year.

To name only a few, Abundance developed the world's first crowdfunding council bond (more info here). Tractebel is developing its platform that will address the need of the local community at the level of individual households: the platform will be customized for the citizens of a residential neighbourhood in Bucharest. The Trinity College of Dublin launched two surveys, one addressed to existing customers and focused on getting motivations, demographics, feedback and suggestions; the other addressed to the general public focusing on getting attitudes, preferences and suggestions. The results will be analyzed and available soon.

In addition, the European Social Innovation Platform (ESIP) will be launched next year to become a reference point for European professionals in the energy sector.

Find more information on the SocialRES Website.

CitizEE

The CitizEE project has the privilege of participating in the European Energy Efficiency Conference, which will take place in June 2021, and will offer a capacity building workshop titled "Developing public-backed financing schemes to leverage private & citizen finance for Energy Efficiency". This workshop will provide deep insights into the establishment and implementation of Citizen Financing Schemes for Energy Efficiency.

What’s more, CitizEE will soon join the Bable Smart Cities Platform, which is an innovative platform aiming at supporting the sustainable development of cities in Europe and beyond.

Finally, CitizEE recently published two reports

HYPOSO

At the end of 2020, the HYPOSO Project has published a handbook about state-of-the-art innovations from the European hydropower industry. It is available in English, French and Spanish and can be downloaded from: https://www.hyposo.eu/en/sector-information/.

Furthermore, stakeholders from the hydropower sector, who come from Europe or the HYPOSO target countries Bolivia, Colombia, and Ecuador in Latin America, and Cameroon and Uganda in Africa, are invited to join the HYPOSO Platform ( https://www.hyposo.eu/en/hyposo-platform/ ) to make direct business contacts with each other. The HYPOSO Project, funded under the H2020 programme, aims at supporting the European hydropower industry while at the same time fostering a sustainable development in selected target countries in Africa and Latin America.

DiBiCoo

DiBiCoo (Digital Global Biogas Cooperation) is an EU funded cooperation project between biogas technology exporting and importing countries, with the overall objective to support the European biogas/biomethane industry by preparing markets for the import of sustainable biogas/biomethane technologies from Europe to Argentina, Ethiopia, Ghana, Indonesia, South Africa, and other emerging countries.

DiBiCoo participates in the "EuroTier digital 2021” (www.eurotier.com) the world's leading trade fair for animal production, and in “EnergyDecentral digital 2021" (www.energy-decentral.com) the international trade fair for innovative energy supply. The events take place from 09-12 Feb 2021 and DiBiCoo will present their insights in the Spotlight Energy Forum.

Learn more about biogas project opportunities in the target countries and join DiBiCoo in the Spotlight Energy Forum on 9. & 10.2.2021. To get your free ticket, contact Felix.Colmorgen@wip-munich.de.

ETIP PV

The European Technology and Innovation Platform for PV (ETIP PV) along with SOLARUNITED, the European Solar Manufacturing Council, Solar Power Europe and the VDMA Photovoltaic Equipment Association has recently announced the launch of the ETIP-PV Matrix.

The Matrix is an online participative database which will map the players of the European solar PV value chain. It will provide a clear continental view of the industrial PV ecosystem and link its participants across borders. Along with the Solar Manufacturing Accelerator it will be the meeting point for all industry stakeholders to exchange cutting edge information and raise their knowledge about the future of the manufacturing industry in the European PV sector.

PV IMPACT

The PV IMPACT Online Matchmaking Event “Building Integrated PV” will take place on 26 February 2021. In this event organized in the framework of the PV IMPACT project, you will have the chance to make new connections and find partners with whom to work on future projects under EU and/or national funding schemes on the topic of Building Integrated Photovoltaics.

Find all details and register here.

Additionally, more than a hundred PV R&D projects have been added to the PV IMPACT Database. The database is collecting and centralizing all ongoing and recently finished R&I projects on PV. Check out and contribute to the database here.

Lastly, thanks to the collaboration between PV IMPACT and French manufacturer Photowatt, you can now easily test the manufacturability of your processes in all stages of the value chain. Sounds interesting? Get more information.

EU PVSEC 2021 Call for Papers
