PV Academy Session 2: Degradation and Reliability of PV Modules

Following the first session on PV fundamentals, the PV Academy will also explore how and why PV modules degrade over time.

Dr David Moser (Becquerel Institute) and Dr Teresa Barnes (NREL) explain common failure modes, such as light-induced degradation, corrosion, and solder fatigue – and how materials, design, and environmental stress affect reliability.
The session also introduces key testing methods, including advanced imaging and reliability modelling, with insights into system performance and economic impact.

More details

Whether you're in research, industry, or operations, this session provides a clear, practical understanding of PV module durability.

New Insights for a Sustainable and Participatory Bioeconomy!

We’re excited to share two new SCALE-UP policy briefs guiding a sustainable, participatory EU bioeconomy:

"Scaling up biobased production within ecological boundaries" highlights the need to increase bioeconomy efficiency while respecting ecological limits, using insights from six EU regions to promote data-driven, sustainable supply chains.

"From Strategy to Action for a Regional, Participatory, and Sustainable EU Bioeconomy" (with RuralBioUp, BioRuralEU & MainstreamBIO) calls for inclusive governance and rural engagement to anchor the bioeconomy in local realities.

Together, they offer a roadmap for a fair, green transition.
