PV Academy Session 3: Photovoltaics and Climate Change – A Dual Perspective

Presented by Prof. Jenny Nelson (Imperial College) and Prof. Jan Christoph Goldschmidt (Marburg University), this session explores PV’s dual role in the climate challenge, as a key solution for decarbonising energy and as an industry with its own sustainability footprint.

The lecture examines PV’s unique potential, lessons from its rapid cost decline, and how to quantify its real climate impact. It also covers strategies to reduce the CO₂ footprint of PV systems through efficiency, recycling, and supply chain decarbonisation.
