EU PVSEC Satellite Event Webinar: From Grid Congestion to Grid Resilience: The Role of Flexibility Enablers

As photovoltaic deployment accelerates across Europe, grid congestion is becoming a major challenge for the integration of new renewable energy capacity. Energy storage, demand response, and smart energy management solutions offer key opportunities to increase grid flexibility, optimise existing infrastructure, and unlock additional PV deployment without immediate grid expansion.
This webinar, co-organised by EU PVSEC and Energy Storage Europe, will explore how flexible assets can help transform congested grids into resilient energy systems, with a particular focus on the Dutch context. The session also serves as a preview of the discussion on “Grid Congestion Management and the Perspective of The Netherlands” at the opening of EU PVSEC 2026 in Rotterdam.

Project Updates

GIFFT Report Explores Ash Use in Glass Production

The GIFFT project has published a new report on using biomass and gasification ashes as secondary raw materials for glass production. Drawing on ash streams from across Europe, the study assesses how these residues could partly replace conventional raw materials, supporting lower CO₂ emissions and greater circularity in the glass industry. The findings underline the importance of targeted treatment and characterisation for resource-efficient manufacturing pathways.
Join COALITION Trainings Across Europe

The COALition Excellence Hub Bulgaria is supporting the transformation of the Stara Zagora region towards a climate-neutral and innovation-driven economy. Through training, networking and knowledge-sharing activities, the initiative helps strengthen clean energy capacity and supports new opportunities for a just transition in coal-dependent regions under the Horizon Europe-funded COALition project.
From Policy to Practice: Advancing EPBD Implementation Across Europe

The BREEZE-LIFE project co-organised an event focused on practical implementation of the EPBD across Europe. Together with initiatives including OpenBEP4EU, iEPB EU and SmarterEPC, discussions explored EPCs, renovation passports, digital building data systems and interoperability solutions supporting a more efficient and sustainable buildings sector.
SUPREMAS Reaches Two-Year Milestone

SUPREMAS partners met in Zaragoza to mark two years of progress in developing syngas solutions for energy communities. Recent work includes gasifier optimisation, SOFC modelling, biochar valorisation and sustainability assessments. The next public workshop takes place in Germany on 16 June 2026.
ETIP PV Elects New Steering Committee Members

The ETIP PV Steering Committee met on 26 May to discuss key developments in Europe’s photovoltaic research, innovation and industrial policy landscape. During the meeting, 14 representatives were elected or re-elected to the Steering Committee, ensuring balanced representation of both the research and innovation community and the PV industry for the coming term.
EUPI-PV Conference 2026 Brings Together Europe's PV Innovation Community

On 27 May, the EUPI-PV Conference 2026 gathered representatives from industry, research and policymaking in Brussels to discuss the future of solar innovation in Europe. The event highlighted new PV manufacturing initiatives, explored key policy and investment developments, and addressed opportunities and challenges for strengthening Europe's photovoltaic value chain.
BioTheRoS Explores Advanced Biofuel Pathways Through Pyrolysis, Gasification and Carbon Capture

The BioTheRoS webinar brought together experts to discuss how thermochemical conversion technologies, including pyrolysis and gasification, can accelerate sustainable biofuel production. The session highlighted the integration of carbon capture, utilization and storage (CC(U)S) and renewable hydrogen as key enablers for scaling up low-carbon fuel value chains for aviation and maritime transport.
