LAMNET

Latin America Thematic Network on Bioenergy

Duration: 2002 – 2004 ● Client: European Commission (FP5) ● WIP Role: Coordination, Policy development, Communication and Dissemination ● www.bioenergy-lamnet.org

The main objective of the project Latin America Thematic Network on Bioenergy (LAMNET) was to establish a trans-national forum for the promotion of sustainable use of biomass in Latin America and other emerging countries.

This global network of 48 institutions (Knowledge Centres and SMEs) from 24 countries worldwide was set up to face urgent needs for improved and regionally adapted bioenergy applications. LAMNET was engaged in the development of policies and strategies for the promotion and utilisation of suitable biomass systems and technologies in Latin America. Thereby, political implications concerning agriculture, energy, environment, socio-economy, industry and R&D were taken into account as well as environmental and cultural constraints.

LAMNET was co-financed by the European Commission in the 5th Framework Programme - Specific Measures in Support of International Cooperation (INCO).
