Making heating and cooling for European consumers efficient, economically resilient, clean and climate-friendly

Half of Europe’s energy consumption is used for heating or cooling. However, two thirds of the heating systems installed in Europe – that is 80 million units – are inefficient or based on fossil fuels.

In order to achieve the climate targets and to make Europe independent of oil, coal and natural gas, changes in this sector are essential.
The aim of REPLACE is to motivate and support people in target regions of nine different countries (Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Germany, Macedonia, Serbia, Slovenia and Spain) to replace their old heating systems with more environmentally friendly alternatives. Simple renovation measures that reduce overall energy consumption of the buildings are also part of the programme. In order to achieve this, a full set of different tools and measures for consumers, installers and decision makers are elaborated by the REPLACE consortium. All tools and support measures are applied in large-scale replacement campaigns for each target region.
