REshare

Study on organisational models and best practice for facilitating local co-ownership and similar ways of increasing community acceptance of renewable energy projects

Duration: 2010 ● WIP Role: Financing, Market uptake

REshare is based on an initiative of the EC. It reviewed existing experience and current trends with respect to the implementation of mechanisms for local co-ownership and of renewable energy projects or other schemes for concrete benefit-sharing and identified key success factors and elements of best practice. WIP contributed by providing three cases to this study and by analyzing the respective BSM (Benefit Sharing Mechanism).

REshare developed recommendations and proposals for possible standard elements of and/or models for organisational frameworks, mechanisms or agreements that could facilitate cooperation between project developers and local communities to enable the former to open up projects to the latter to share the economic benefits of large renewable projects with the community in which they are sited. Examples of mechanisms include participation in upfront financing but also other mechanisms.
