BREEZE

Building Renovation Efforts for Zero Emission Buildings

Duration: 2025 – 2028 ● Client: European Commission (LIFE - CET) ● WIP Role: Coordination and Dissemination & Communication

About the Project

The BREEZE project is a LIFE Programme co-funded initiative launching in September 2025 and running for three years with the mission of accelerating the EU’s transition toward zero-emission buildings. In alignment with the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) Recast, BREEZE works to improve national databases on building energy performance and support data-driven renovation policies.

Across the EU, buildings account for approximately 40% of total energy consumption and 36% of CO₂ emissions. Renovating the existing building stock presents a powerful opportunity: cutting energy use by an estimated 5–6% and reducing CO₂ emissions by around 5%, according to the European Commission. BREEZE aims to unlock this potential by developing tools, capacity-building programmes, and reference case studies based on real building data from Poland, Italy, and France.

By integrating Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) standards, solar mandates, and cost-optimal renovation models, BREEZE supports Member States in designing effective, scalable renovation strategies that contribute to healthier, more energy-efficient buildings.

Project Partners

Consortium

BREEZE brings together eight organisations from seven European countries, uniting expertise in building renovation, energy performance assessment, data analytics, IEQ, PV/BIPV integration, and policy development.

Working across three national datasets and multiple building typologies, the consortium combines technical, regulatory, and socio-economic competencies to create robust, replicable methodologies for renovation planning at national and local levels.
