PV Enviroprotect

Demonstration of low-power standard PV units for environmental protection in isolated mountain areas

Duration: 1997 – 1998 ● Client: European Commission (FP4) ● WIP Role: Research and Innovation

Within this project two stand-alone PV powered systems were realised in Romania:

  1. an emergency signal repeater station in the Bucegi mountains, high above the resort Predeal and
  2. a pollution control unit combined with a sub-system for meteorological data monitoring in Fundata

The stand-alone systems are located in isolated mountain areas which are frequented by alpine tourists. The work focused on technical solutions to power sensible instruments with PV energy, such as air pollution control units and security relevant systems, such as emergency signal repeaters, and on concepts to continuously monitor systems operated in isolated areas.
